Eyelid Aesthetics (Blepharoplasty)

Eyelid Aesthetics (Blepharoplasty)

The human skin begins to lose elasticity due to aging and as a result of this, sagging and wrinkles appear on various parts of the body. One of the areas where signs of aging are common is eye area. Especially deformations seen around the eyelid makes person look older and tired. Blepharoplasty –Eyelid Aesthetics- is performed to give the face a younger appearance without losing its naturalness with the intervention of the lower and upper eyelids.

What is Blepharoplasty?

Blepharoplasty derives from the Latin word ‘blepharo’ (eyelid) and it includes all surgical and non-surgical operations that will be performed on the eyelid. Drooping eyelids are a genetic problem that is usually encountered in family members. Just like genetic factors; sun exposure, constant use of facial expressions and the influence of gravity, cause the signs of aging on the eyelids. The main goal is to achieve more vigorous and attractive looks by fixing the signs of aging such as sagging, wrinkles, upper eyelid and eyebrow droops, lower lid sagging without damaging the shape of the eye structure.

Blepharoplasty Procedure

Before the eyelid aesthetics is performed, it is determined whether the person wants to have the procedure with cosmetic concerns or health problems. Younger people have this procedure done in order to get a more attractive look; While older people get this procedure done because of vision restriction caused by sagging on the eyelids.

Before Blepharoplasty eye movements should be evaluated and standard photographs should be taken. Although the procedure is usually performed with local anesthesia, sedation or general anesthesia can also be applied with the decision of patients and the doctor. An incision is made using scalpel, cautery, or laser technology in the place where the procedure is performed. Excess muscle, fat and skin in the areas determined by the doctor are removed. After tightening the sagging skin, the incisions are closed. Procedure lasts 30-40 minute. After the operation, drops and ophthalmic pomade are used and ice compress is applied to prevent swelling.

Healing Process

After Blepharoplasty the patient is observed for several hours and is discharged on the same day if there are no problems. It is recommended that the patient use antibiotic eye pomade for about a week and apply ice. After Blepharoplasty surgery, the patient should rest, not lift weights and not bend down too much. Although the disappearance time of edema and bruises on the face varies from person to person,i t may take from 1-2 days to 1-2 weeks. It is necessary to avoid contact with water for three days. At the end of a week, the stitches are removed and the patients can return to their daily life.

Are There Any Scars Left After Blepharoplasty?

Blepharoplasty causes redness in the eye area for several weeks. After the process is completed, the incision scars are reduced to such an extent that they are not visible even up close and after a month after the procedure, the surgical scars disappear and the image reaches its best state. People who prefer to have Blepharoplasty surgery can easily witness the rapid and positive change in themselves by getting young and attractive looks after the operation.
